Which phones can scan it

iPhones on iOS 11 or later scan WiFi codes with the Camera app. On Android 10 or later, use the Camera or open WiFi settings and tap the QR scan icon. Some older Android phones need a separate QR scanner app.

Tips for cafés and offices

The password is stored in the code, so anyone who photographs the code knows the password. Use a guest network that is separate from the internal network with your printers, cameras and servers.

When you change the WiFi password, make a new code and replace the old prints. A “Scan for WiFi” label on the frame tells guests what the code is for.

If your network hides its name, also tick “Hidden network”, otherwise phones won’t find it.

Frequently asked questions

Will special characters in the password break it?

No. Characters such as semicolons or quotes are escaped according to the standard before they go into the code.

Is my WiFi password sent to your server?

Not if you only create and download the code; it is generated in your browser. When you are logged in, downloaded codes are saved to “My QR codes” (password included) so you can download them again; only your account can see them.

Which security type should I pick?

Most routers today use WPA2 or WPA3, so choose “WPA/WPA2/WPA3”. Pick WEP only if your router is very old and set to WEP.
