Three ways to enter a place

A share link is the most precise. Open Google Maps, select your place, tap Share and copy the maps.app.goo.gl link into the box above. The code opens that place’s profile with photos, opening hours and reviews.

If your business isn’t on Google Maps yet, type the full address and add the place name in the second box. When an address matches several places, Google Maps shows a list for the person to choose from, so the more specific the address, the better.

For building sites, warehouses or meeting points without a clear address, enter coordinates such as 10.7623, 106.6025. You can get them by touching and holding the map in Google Maps.

Should the code open the place or directions?

By default the code opens the place so people can look first. Tick “Open directions” when the code is for people on their way, for example on invitations, event tickets or booking confirmations. Google Maps uses their current location as the starting point.

Directions work with addresses and coordinates. A share link always opens the place page, where people can tap the directions button themselves.

Which phones can scan it?

The code holds a Google Maps link in Google’s official format. According to the Google Maps URLs documentation, these links open the Google Maps app if it is installed and otherwise open in a browser, and no API key is needed (Google for Developers). iPhones and Android phones scan it with the built-in camera.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Google Maps QR code expire?

No. It is a static code with the link inside it. It keeps working as long as the place or share link exists on Google Maps.

Can I paste a long Google Maps link from my computer?

Yes. The generator accepts both google.com/maps links and short maps.app.goo.gl links. Short links make a sparser code that scans more easily at small sizes.

Why does scanning show a list of places?

Because the address you entered matches several places on Google Maps. Add the place name in the second box, or use the share link of that exact place.

Where should I print it?

Business cards, invitations, flyers, shop signs and receipts. For signs read from a distance, print the code large as described in our QR code print size guide.
